This book challenges what the authors see as a privileged narrative entertained by NGOs in the Global North when it comes to their relationship with their counterparts from the Global South. It suggests approaches to jointly generate new knowledge, high quality networks, and valuable reciprocal and validated collaboration. Issues such as “the Law of Detrimental Effect,” “Collateral Beauty,” “the Collective Psychosis and Bureaucrats,” “Pain as a Catalyst,” “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” and “Intercultural Communication” are highlighted.
Nico van Oudenhoven, a former child psychologist, worked in clinical and academic settings, and with a range of international development agencies. He is co-founder and now Senior Associate of International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI.nl). Together with his colleagues, he seeks to improve the life chances of children, young people, and their families who are exposed to toxic environments. He is a correspondent of Mahabahu Magazine.
Rona Jualla van Oudenhoven is an equity practitioner, sociologist, and author. She has worked internationally in governmental, academic, and NGO settings, this with a special interest in children and youth issues.
